Hoist Medical Transport Accreditation

March 2022, we rolled out our new Hoisting accreditation standards at HAI Heli-Expo and wanted to share with you one of our medical standards in the manual. This following is in regards to utilization management processes.

The organization shall define the process for Utilization Management (UM) for all medical transports aimed toward continuous improvement based on mission type, medical transport crew, and pertinent events during transport.

An effective UM shall encompass the following elements:

  1. Ensures documented processes and procedures are implemented and monitored for consistency and continuity.
  2. Assesses medical equipment status, proper use, failure.
  3. Monitors patient care data and statistics for quality management reports.
  4. Ensures that appropriate outcome requirements are completed and creates action plans to address non-standard operating procedures or individual anomalies.
  5. Identifies triggers for immediate chart review.
  6. Tracks patient care trends to assess potential training opportunities.
  7. Implements quality assurance principles of the continuous improvement cycle.
